How it works
From selfie to submission-ready.
No studio, no queue, no upload. Here’s what happens in the minute between your photo and your download.
- 01
Choose your document
Every document has its own rules — a U.S. passport is 2×2 in with the head at 50–69% of the height; a Schengen visa is 35×45 mm with the head at roughly 70–80%. We load the exact numbers from the issuing authority.
- 02
Take or upload a photo
Use your phone’s camera with our face guide, or any recent photo. Stand about 1.2 m (4 ft) from the camera, face a window, and keep a neutral expression.
- 03
On-device AI does the fiddly part
Face landmarks give us your chin, eyes and head tilt; a segmentation model finds the top of your hair and separates you from the background. The photo is straightened, scaled and positioned to the rules.
- 04
Twelve checks, in plain language
Head size, eye line, background, lighting, focus, expression, eyes open, facing forward and more. Anything off is flagged with how to fix it — before you pay a cent.
- 05
Download, then upload or print
You get the digital file at the exact pixel size and file limit for online forms, and a 4×6 in print sheet to print at any pharmacy kiosk for under 50¢.
Tips for a photo that passes first time
Light
Face a window in daylight. Avoid overhead lights that cast shadows under your eyes, and never stand with the window behind you.
Distance
Have someone take it from about 1.2 m (4 ft), camera at your eye level. Close-up selfies make noses look bigger.
Face
Neutral expression, mouth closed, both eyes open, looking straight into the lens. Hair away from your eyes.
Clothes
Everyday clothes; no uniforms or camouflage. Avoid white tops on white backgrounds. Remove hats and headphones.
Babies
Lay your baby on a plain white sheet and shoot from above. For newborns, eyes needn’t be fully open; no hands or toys in frame.
Printing
Order a standard 4×6 in print — don’t let the kiosk “fit” or crop it. Then cut along the guide lines.
